Facilities Rental:
The lower church hall (kitchen facilities, seats 80) is available for rental
by arrangement with the Rector, and in accordance with Diocesan regulations
(no smoking or alcohol).
Holy Baptism
The celebration of the rite of Holy Baptism is the welcoming of a person or
persons into the body of Christ. The rite requires preparation by both the
community and the candidates, and services of baptism typically take place
four times a year, during special seasons of the Church.
Confirmation
These classes are held periodically and address all aspects of the Christian
faith as practiced in the Anglican tradition. Confirmation is for those 14
years and up (including adults) interested in reaffirming their baptismal
vows.
Marriage
A ministry of preparation for those contemplating marriage within the Anglican
Church is available through St. Thomas’. Weddings may be performed
by arrangement with the clergy, and additional features, such as choir or
worship band, may also be requested.
Funeral Services
Anglican funeral rites are available at or through St Thomas’, by arrangement
with the clergy. St. Thomas’ works closely with funeral directors in
the area to facilitate the planning of funerals and the care of those who mourn.
Cemetery
St. Thomas’ has its own cemetery at Colchester, currently a quiet rural
area four miles south of Sherwood Park. Please direct inquiries about our cemetery
to the church office.

Corporation 2006-07:

Corporation is made up of the Rector, the Rector’s Warden and the People’s
Warden. This body is responsible for proper conduct of regular parish worship,
management of parish finances, maintenance of parish property and interaction
with the Bishop and Diocese. The Deputy People’s Warden may meet with
Corporation but may not vote on any matter required to be decided by Corporation.
Corporation is accountable to and must report to Vestry.

Vestry:

Vestry consists of the Rector and associate clergy, the Wardens, lay delegates
to Diocesan Synod, and any other members as directed by parishioners. Vestry’s
job is to advise and direct Corporation on matters relating to the functioning
of the parish, except where exceptionally large expenditures would require
referral to a meeting of parishioners for a decision. Vestry supports and assists
the Rector and other staff in their duties, and ensures an annual budget is
presented to parishioners for approval. From September to June, Vestry meetings
are held on the third Tuesday of the month, and are open to parishioners who
wish to observe.

Parish Treasurer

The Parish Treasurer is a position required by Diocesan law. Duties are to
assist the Wardens in the handling of offerings and contributions, to keep
parish accounts, and to assist with related financial matters.
